Echoes

I returned home to Wilson Ave this past Monday to an empty yet semi-clean house. I spent the prior week in Chapel Hill, North Carolina training with over 700 other college students for my internship this summer with University Directories. The week was intense yet incredibly fun. Our days consisted of waking up at 6:30 am, training and working til about 10 pm and then going out to the bars on the infamous Franklin St.

Needless to say, the change from living in the dorms and hanging out with 700 other students in NC to the empty Wilson Ave house was pretty huge. Yet I needed the rest.

Except I couldn’t stop and rest yet. The job started immediately, and I found myself scrounging to get organized so I could lead four other students (Team ZOU) to a sales goal of $150,000 this summer.

The first days of the job was everything I expected and more. There was some rejection but a lot of relationship building with local businesses. I learned about the new technologies involved with hearing aids, took a tour of a new hotel and even decided to switch my checking account over to a different bank with better benefits. My team is awesome and I’m looking forward to what the rest of the summer will bring.

Last night was the first time in almost two weeks that I got to sit down on a couch and watch TV. (Yeah, yeah I did get caught up with LOST and the Office online earlier last week). It was nice to sit and do mindless activity again. I forgot how much I liked it.

I ended up meeting up with some people and friends and going out to Gauchos for $1 pitchers (pretty cheap, eh Londoners?) last night. Coming home to an empty house and eating waffles all alone was a little depressing but by next week that all will change.

This morning was the first time I have been able to sleep in past 7 am for about 2 weeks. I took full advantage of it and as you can see from the picture above, I am still on the couch watching cartoons.

This week set the tone for this summer and I’m looking forward to new Columbia adventures. If you’re living in Columbia this summer hurry up and get back here so we can get the party started.

Check back for new quests, voyages and journeys throughout the great Columbia area. (Maybe construction updates?)
